Detecting Labour Exploitation and Modern Slavery using AI

NLP / AI Social Justice

Applying natural language processing and machine learning to identify patterns of labour exploitation and modern slavery from operational and open-source data — supporting law enforcement, civil society, and policy response.

This interdisciplinary project bridges AI research and social science to address one of the most pressing hidden crimes. Working with partners in Sheffield and Leeds, the project develops detection models trained on real case data and evaluates their effectiveness across multiple exploitation typologies including forced labour, domestic servitude, and debt bondage.
